Training

Chihuahuas don't need more than 30 minutes walk per day, but that doesn't mean that they don't need attention for the rest of the time. Is good to start training as soon as they leave their mum. Let them focus for some brief training sessions no longer than a few minutes, but try to do it everyday. Teach them to sit and stay first. This is very important to help them to stay under your control in the future. teach him that great things happen when he is calm. One important command to master is the stay command; this will help your dog be under control and focus on you. As your dog growing up, make the sessions longer. There is very helpful book written by Claudia Kaiser - Chihuahua Training. If you thing that you struggle there is always online advice.

Grooming

If you have a short coat chihuahua you're lucky, because when it comes to grooming this is one of the easiest dogs to maintain. All you need is a small rubber brush, shampoo, conditioner, cotton balls, nail trimmers and some styptic powder. Brushing ones per week is enough. Although, with the long coat chihuahuas brushing is recommended at least two times per week to keep the coat nice and healthy.

Bathing you chihuahua could be challenging as most of them are not friends with a water. Is recommended to bath your dog only if is necessary , because bathing your dog very often can lead to dry skin issues even if you use top quality shampoo. Ones per month is more than enough.

Chihuahuas can develop tear stains (discoloration around the eyes). Is very important to wipe and dry them every day as well as the ears. Ceramic or stainless steel bows is better than plastic and colourfull as they can slowly leak dyes. Also make sure the quality of water you give to your chihuahua is good. Avoid mineral water.

Nail trimming is recommended in every three months starting when your chi is 12 months old. if you not sure that you can do that at home is better to take your dog to professional groomer. Moreover, they can check the anal glands or any other grooming element during your visit.
